[Hike] Garnet Peak - Mt. Laguna, Descanso, CA

Hiked Garnet Peak Trail in the Laguna Mountain area, on Sunday May 25th, 2008.
The hike is fairly easy and less than 3mi round trip, but, you get exceptional views of Anza Borrego Desert :
What I liked the most about this hike is that it clearly brings out the effects that the geology of Laguna Mountain has on the terrain around it. Mt. Laguna is basically like a "camel's hump" and so when all the cool air from the San Diego coast hits the west side of the hump, it causes rain and snow enough to make the vegetation look like the pacific NW (see photos in the post "Lightning Ridge Trail" below). By the time the air goes over the hump to the east side, it is too warm to cause any more moisture thus resulting in the vast. dry, hot expanse called the "Anza Borrego Desert"
