Did a short (3.5mi) hike through King Gillete Ranch in the Malibu Creek State Park area and then headed up a small hill to a lookout called "Inspiration Point" (apt for someone getting back into hiking after a while!).
The trail head is very easy to get to. Exit 101N in Calabasas (N of LA) at Las Virgenes Rd. Turn left and continue south for about 4 miles to get to Mulholland Dr, turn L and then look for Gillette Ranch entrance on the right. Go in an park (free covered parking for up to 2 hours)
