[Hike] - Volcan Mountain Summit - Julian, CA

Hiked Volcan Mountain in Julian (that beautiful little town about 50mi NE of San Diego county) on July 4th, 2008. The hike was beautiful with breathtaking views of Anza Borrego Desert. It also had some surprisingly well shaded portions, for a San Diego hike.

Getting to the trailhead (and Julian) is pretty straightforward. Take either the 78E or the 67N (which meets the 78E) and continue till you reach Main St/ Farmers Road. Once you get to Julian, turn L on Farmers road, continue till stop sign, turn R on Wynola Rd and turn L again to get back on Farmers road. The trailhead sign should be visible on the right side of the road, shortly after that:
The Hike starts of on a gravel/ paved road with apple orchards on either side, leading up to the main entrance with trail maps and a wooden gate.

Next two in B&W for a change!
Continue past those gates and up a fire road to come up to a point where you see a fork with a sign for the "Five Oaks Trail:
At this point you can choose to do the shorter, but fairly steep, fire road all the way up to mid summit or take five oaks and join the fire road back later at mid summit (~1.2mi)

Hmm.. can't decide if I like the B&W better or the color better, what do you think?

I like the panoramic views from the peak. They are well stitched too :) Awesome!
