Catalina Island - Off the Southern California Coast

We left Santa Barbara at 6 in the morning, on the first day of Thanksgiving last year ('05), to get to Long Beach Harbor (120 mi S) by 8am to catch a boat... but wasn't it TOTALLY worth it??

The wet and Misty morning brought our hopes down (notice the zero visibility behind the boat)...

But, soon enough the weather cleared up and after the hour and a half long boat ride, we began to see some spectacular views of Catalina....

First order of business... hike up to the highest reachable points...!

The building with a red-roof is a casino and pic following this one.. is taken from the top of the mountain behind it (so it is strategically opposite to this location..

Thanks ian and caleb. Yes, Catalina was one of my memorable one day trips... I spent most of the day on the front side though. I definitely hope to go back there to camp and check out the more natural "wilderness" :)

Be sure to check back for more!
